CREW CULTURE
The core of AXL Academy is our crew. With the belief the classroom is an extension of our community, our crew culture is developed and sustained through practices that bring the community together, promote shared understandings and encourage all community members to be active participants and leaders.
Each crew establishes crew goals, goes on expeditions, are active learners and together build the fundamentals of teamwork, collaboration, emotional growth and social growth. Crew allows students to build positive connections with their peers and with their crew leader.
We are crew, not passengers in life.

Inclusive
All scholars from K-8 experience and benefit from our Crew culture.
Crew is inclusive and collaborative; everyone has a voice and responsibilities. Crew at its core is an active, micro-community where every individual plays an important role for self and group success.
SEL
Crew is the bedrock of AXL Academy with daily time dedicated to establishing, building and nurturing relationships with others within the crew and community as we focus on our mission and vision. This dedicated time is also when social-emotional learning, team building and service learning is the primary focus.
Community
Crew is a community and multiple crews meet weekly for a community meeting to celebrate successes and set goals for the week. These community meetings can be SEL lessons, community-based projects, team building exercises and more.
